The following is a Photo Essay by Luke Njeru, Winner of Honourable Mention at the Nairobi (Kenyan capital) Railway terminus on 2nd February 2004 at 6.30 pm.

1. Security Cover: These men hide from security to avoid being arrested because they entered the station before the gates were officially opened. They do not mind the risk of goods train moving besides taking cover from police and rains. 2. Innocent Cry: A school child is helped over the fence to secure a seat in the train before the gates are opened where survival for the fittest is the order of sanity. 3. Injured: Unidentified women groans in pain after being stumbled on by the anxious passengers who broke the gates and over powered the security guards to gain access to the train. 4. Unlucky: The fittest and fastest got in first and the weaker are struggling to hang to any part of the train they can hold to. See the frustrated lady left bottom corner after she failed to secure a place. 5. On the Move: The train is about to move to the Eastland side of the Nairobi City where the majority of the low-income earners live. The train passes the slums of Dandora and Embakasi on its way to Thika.
