Introduction In spite of promises and projects, good intentions and concrete actions, solidarity and concerns for the other, inequality in the world has been growing in the past decades. As the gap between peoples widen more and more and on all domains, one begins to question the way world leaders and institutions have been proceeding and shaping policies that have led to the results of today. In addition to these chaos, Brazil adopted in June 2009 a new law under which the journalists do not require formation! It may sound strange, but it is not only the case of Brazil but also many so called developed nations worldwide. Some years ago, it was one of the "missions" of the developed world “to form” professionals so that they may exercise their profession in line with ethics and respect. Formation has been also promoted as the pre-requisite for healthy and participatory democracy worldwide especially in Latin America. The other major question: what a journalist without formation is going to do in guiding the nation to equality and respect and in dealing with sophisticated issues such as free markets like Mercosur, NAFTA, FTAA; politics, cultures, religions, medicines and arts. The refresher seminar intends to analyse all these issues so that can have first hand information and enrich themselves to report for the good of the human person than to one party or other. Role of Christian Journalism Christian journalists and media experts have a critical role to play especially in the field of formation. Christianeducational institutions have excelled in giving value-oriented formation on diverse domains and Christian journalists have a special challenge in this time of libertinage in the media by giving a vision and mission for humanity. The refresher seminar therefore will analyse the theme and its multiple aspects with the help of experts, personalities and leaders from the Church, media, business, government, non-governmental organisations. This seminar is in line with Church’s priorities both pastoral and developmental such as constant awareness and education, option for the poor, good governance, and welfare of all peoples and ethnic groups who belong to the same universal Church. Professors of journalism and journalists in the country together with their colleagues in other domains have been preparing the seminar for several months. They find it is urgent and necessary to do this event and thus promote greater formation that form the foundations of solid and ideal journalism and media. Refresher Theme The theme of the event intends to discuss all the major related issues. The sub-themes include (a) contribution of journalists to the continent’s development, (b) Their successes and failures; where and why, (c) what programme of action journalists can envisage in the formation of journalists and media professionals, (d) how to perform successfully with the minimum resources available, (e) freedom of expression amidst economic threats, (f) formation for development and peace, (g) human foundations and concepts of freedom, (h) historic panorama and present events (i) human rights, authority and public opinion (j) living testimonies of journalists. General Aims of Refresher Seminar Here are some major objectives of the formation seminar:
